The classiest rivalry in all of sports was renewed yet again on Saturday at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore when Army and Navy met for the 115th time.
Navy's winning streak of 13 games over Army was sealed with a 17-10 victory but it didn't look optimistic early on.
The Midshipmen went three-and-out on their first drive of the game, which resulted in a blocked punt that was returned for a touchdown by the Black Knights. Navy's offense stayed quiet until a nine-yard touchdown pass from Keenan Reynolds to Jamir Tillman with 18 seconds left in the first half.
Navy opened the second half with a five minute and 17 second drive that ended in a field goal to give them a 10-7 lead. Early in the fourth quarter, the Mids tacked on another touchdown at the end of a 15-play drive.
The Midshipmen defense only surrendered a field foal following a Reynolds fumble with less than four minutes remaining. After that, an onside kick by Army was futile and Navy was able to run out the clock.
By his standards, Reynolds had a quiet day. The junior ran 26 times for 100 yards and one touchdown and threw for another score. In his productive outing, he continued his ascent in the record books. Reynolds surpassed former Texas quarterback Vince Young on the all-time NCAA quarterback rushing list and tied former Ne aska quarterback Eric Crouch with 374 career points, the most by a quarterback and 11th overall. He trails former San Diego State running back Marshall Faulk by two points for 10th place.
The victory also secured head coach Ken Niumatalolo's place as Navy's all-time winningest coach. His 56-35 record helped him surpass George Welsh.
