Debbie Wojciechowski is a self-proclaimed “normal person,” but she possesses an extraordinary gift. After nearly drowning at the age of 13, Wojciechowski gained an unusual ability—she claims she could communicate with the dead.
She spent over a decade denying her metaphysical abilities, but finally began to accept her gift and pursue her calling. Wojciechowski has studied with several Mediums from around the world, has taken a variety of certification courses, and has now devoted her life to being a Medium.
Aside from being a certified Evidential Medium and Clairvoyant, Wojciechowski has 25 years of experience in law enforcement, a Master degree of Science from Johns Hopkins, and a background in mental health and grief counseling.
“It's been great to study with other Mediums because they understand probably more than most. My career and experiences have all been stepping stones in helping me to be a better Medium.” – Debbie Wojciechowski
This month, she will be hosting an event at the Avalon Theatre in the Stoltz Listening Room in Easton. The show will take place on Saturday, September 23rd at 8 p.m. Tickets are $45. This is an event you don’t want to miss!
Why did you initially deny your metaphysical abilities when you were 13? Can you elaborate on your experience and how you knew this was something special? What about your gift was hard to accept?
I believe that there’s an initiation when one begins to realize they have the gift and mine was when I had a near death experience at the age of 13. By the time I was 21, I lost most of my relatives and I asked a bit rhetorically “where did everyone go?” I ended up getting the answer. Mediumship was not readily accepted in the U.S. at the time. I decided to take the traditional route and go to college, but being a medium was always a part of who I was, so I eventually decided to do it professionally.
As someone with a 25–year career in law enforcement, how would you say your gift has helped contribute to particular cases compared to someone without your gift? Was there any particular experience where a spirit would get in the way?
The federal government is extremely conservative. There were very few people that I shared I had this ability with. I feel that everyone has a very strong intuition, but I know that I utilized that ability on a much, much higher level. Until I retired, and began working on cold cases, I didn’t use my medium abilities for my work—but I definitely used my intuition. It’s so natural to me and I think when something comes naturally to us we don’t realize it’s an ability.
Being a Medium is something that is gifted to you, you don't choose it. Do you ever ask yourself, why me? What would you say is the most enjoyable part about being medium?
Initially, I asked that a lot, but I came to accept it. I truly don’t know why I did. It’s been great to study with other Mediums because they understand probably more than most. My career and experiences have all been stepping stones in helping me to be a better Medium.
I believe you know whether or not you’re a Medium. That sounds silly, but it’s true. If you ask yourself a question, you know the answer. I’ve been blessed and found extraordinary people in my life. I truly believe when you’re ready, the right teacher will appear.
Is there anything about being a Medium that you dislike or find difficult?
That is a great question. I truly believe that it’s my life purpose. I am extremely humbled by the work and I take it very seriously. When I decided to do this full time, I gave it serious consideration. Being a Medium has a bad name, I know that. But, I think people should have a skepticism. I encourage it, but I don’t tolerate cynicism. If I didn’t truly believe in my work, I wouldn’t do it. It’s an honor, but an extraordinary responsibility. All in all, I’m just a normal person.
Many people believe in “signs” from their loved ones who have passed, is there any truth to this belief?
Absolutely. I think our loved ones on the other side want to communicate with us. They want us to know that they are safe and happy, and they want to give us signs. Those of us on the earth plane want the ones who passed to communicate with us.
Usually, a spirit will do something annoying, because often we won’t pay attention unless something is annoying. The signs have something to do with their personality or ours. If your loved one was a smoker, you might quickly get a whiff of smoke, you might see someone on the street with similar mannerisms as someone who has passed, or you could find a coin on the ground that has a date associated with your loved one—those are all signs.
If you pay attention, the signs are there. The important thing to remember is that your loved ones can hear you. The only reason they can get to me is because they can hear you. Talk to them.
How has your work in grief counseling and Hospice care assisted you in your work as a Medium?
I have a strong background in grief counseling and I think it’s an instrumental part of what I do. Even if I connect with a loved one, my clients are still dealing with the emotions of grief and loss. Because of my background, after a reading, I can often refer people to resources for loss of a spouse or child. It’s been an absolutely instrumental part of my work.
Why do you think so many people are skeptical of Mediums and their abilities?
I think because we don’t talk about it in this country and it’s not very accepted. There are a lot of people who have given mediumship a bad name. It’s something that is hard to believe unless it’s happened to you personally. If you’re going to see a Medium or psychic, I think it’s important to get a referral.
What can someone expect to see when they come to one of your shows?
There are usually about 50 to 75 people at each show. It’s hard to say exactly how many readings I’ll give because some readings are more extensive than others. I won’t move on until a message is finished.
If I’m involved giving a message to someone, I’ll finish it no matter how long it takes. I consider myself an evidential Medium, which means I always give specific details so that you’re absolutely sure it’s your loved one coming through.
I always take time during my shows to talk about the basics of mediumship and how to know that your loved ones are around you. Hopefully everyone will leave my show with a better understanding of mediumship.
