The home decor boutique is brimming with treasures of both bright and water-inspired colors, crafted in the United States and around the world. How do you curate and acquire the boutique’s variety of designer items and décor? What makes them special?
When buying pieces for my shop, my number one rule is that it must be something that I love enough to bring into my own home. Generic furniture might be fine for the basics, but I look for pieces that are unique, have character, and make me smile. We often have visiting customers who say that our store is such a happy place, and nothing could make me feel better about what we offer. It’s icing on the cake when they ask to engage our design services!
What trends are you seeing in your industry that excite you?
That’s a tricky question. Overused trends can lead to a home feeling dated after just a few short years. The most important thing to me is that homes reflect the taste and lifestyle of the owners while remaining stylish, inviting, and current. Comfort and flow are always key, but what am I loving today? The resurgence of colors such as the warmth of brown, the playfulness of lavender, the juxtaposition of pinks with oranges, the fresh feeling of current greens, the curves in architecture, and the simplicity of nature are all enticing to me.
Please explain your approach to consulting and serving clients and what they should expect from the experience.
Interior design is about the experience and the outcome—not only the joy of creating, but also the livability, the comfort, and the visual delight. My goal is to make it easy, fun, and exciting while producing a journey throughout the home that seduces all of the senses. I often find that one item can produce a jumping point—the inspiration—for a room and from there, anything is possible!
