On Saturday at 2:30 p.m., the University of Denver will take on the top-seeded Loyola University Maryland.
r
If you're having the same reaction that I did, it's kind of a "What? Denver? They have lacrosse in Denver?" sort of thing. But, the university pulled a big upset over the North Carolina Tarheels in a 16-14 victory on May 12th, propelling them into the quarterfinals.
r
Denver and Loyola met twice in the regular season, and both times Loyola managed to come out victorious. But not by much.
r
Beforehand, Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium will play host to an epic local rivalry--known by some as "lacrosse's greatest."
r
The UMD Terrapins will take on the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays at noon on Saturday.
r
Although the teams have met a total of 108 times, they last faced each other in the playoffs in 1998. That match ran into overtime, and eventually ended with a 11-10 victory for the Terps. Hopkins has a higher seed this year, though, so it's really anyone's game.
