Schooner Sultana in St. Michaels through Saturday
The schooner Sultana is at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Md. now through Saturday, May 9. The Sultana will be open for boarding to all museum visitors from 2- 4:00 pm. on Saturday, May 9. The tour is free for museum members or with general admission.
Sultana will spend a week at CBMM hosting under-sail Environmental Science programs for Easton Middle School students. These same students will also participate in land-based programs with CBMM staff and volunteers focusing on oyster physiology and ecology, and the oyster's impact on the culture and history of the Chesapeake region. Sultana's 2015 programs for Talbot County Schools are being funded in part by a grant from the Miles River Yacht Club Foundation.
The schooner Sultana serves as an on-the-water classroom for learning about the history and environment of the Chesapeake Bay. An almost exact replica of a British schooner that patrolled the North American coast just prior to the American Revolution, Sultana provides day-long programs as well as live-aboard programs for participants.
During Sultana's visit, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum’s waterfront campus and 12 exhibit buildings are open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week. For more information, visit www.cbmm.org or call 410-745-2916.
