If you're anything like me, we're a weird pair. But, something about the tag line "hats are encouraged!" in a press release is enough to catch my attention. I don't know why, but it draws me in like a bug to a porch light. That's what the members of the Martin Luther King Jr. Committee Inc. wrote in their email detailing the Coretta Scott King Memorial Garden Party and Chateau Fashions Fundraiser. This elegant party takes place on Sunday at Sojourner Douglass College in Edgewater. It cele ates the opening of the garden tribute to the memory of the late civil rights activist Coretta Scott King, the widow of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr, called by many the first lady of the Civil Rights Movement. It is being funded entirely by private contributions. Your $30 ticket can be bought at the door, visiting their website, or by mailing a check to Martin Luther King Dinner Committee, P.O. Thinking of making a trip to the Beach? Are you Shore folks searching for something to do? Perhaps you're just an avid fan of folk. Either way, make sure you stop by the Chesapeake Folk Festival at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michael's. Go cele ate the Bay’s people, food, music, work and traditions. You'll get to enjoy live music, a variety of food items and wines from Maryland vineyards (yum!), maritime and food-ways demonstrations, boat rides, and craft vendors. The festival is free for members, $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, $6 for children between the ages of six and 17.

Perhaps you find yourself in the Baltimore region. I have a suggestion for you. Now, I know concerts aren't everyone's thing, but this is one that's sure to please even the pickiest. This Saturday at 8 p.m. at Oregon Ridge, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra is playing the music of legendary cinema score composer and my biggest audio crush John Williams. Mr. Williams created some of the 20th century’s most recognizable popular music. At this concert, you'll get to hear the familiar themes from blockbusters such as Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Superman, ET: The Extra-Terrestrial, Jurassic Park and more, with Andrew Grams conducting. Tickets range between $25 and $50. Plus, there are fireworks after the show! Is that an awesome combination, or what? And, at the risk of giving away deets about my Monday blog--I'll be there.
