Avalon Theatre Easton, Maryland
Eastern Shore Land Conservancy (ESLC) is excited to present A Plein Air Celebration of Preserved Properties. This summer, ESLC and Plein Air Easton invited former top tier prize winners to paint the landscape of four different properties protected by Eastern Shore Land Conservancy. Paintings will be on display at the Eastern Shore Conservation Center during the Avalon Foundation’s 20th Annual Plein Air Easton — the largest and most prestigious juried plein air painting competition in the United States. A special reception with refreshments and awards will be held at the Eastern Shore Conservation Center on Wednesday July 17th from 6—8 PM. This event is free and open to the public. Registration is not required but preferred.
Founded in 1990, the Eastern Shore Land Conservancy conserves, stewards, and advocates for the unique rural landscape of the Eastern Shore, forever a special place of diverse and abundant natural resources and thriving rural communities. To date, ESLC has helped protect more than 66,700 acres from Cecil to Dorchester County. These landscapes vary from grain farms to woodlands to marshes and wetlands. Conserving these farms and natural spaces in perpetuity means forever protecting the stunning views of the Eastern Shore. Artwork that captures these views helps to inspire current and future conservationists, spark conversations about conservation, and organically provides a dynamic document of the environmental changes, challenges, and successes present throughout our unique, rural landscape. Paintings move us to connect with the land of our homeplace in a way different from words, numbers, or even photos and videos. ESLC is grateful to the Wilderness, Waterloo Farm, Yorktown Farm, and Crosiadore Farm for generously opening their properties to this year’s artists.
