The singers of ECAS held a fun Saturday retreat rehearsal for their upcoming April concerts
Easton Choral Arts Society will finish its 2023-2024 season with concerts on Friday, April 26th at 7:30 pm and Sunday, 28th at 4:00 pm, 4:00 pm at Christ Church – 111 South Harrison St, Easton, MD, 21601.
The theme for the spring concert is “Of Water to Sky”. The songs are in many different styles, featuring the works of female composers in a celebration of the powerful feminine influence embodied in nature. Breaking away from traditional portrayals, “Of Water To Sky” goes beyond the delicate and sweet aspects associated with femininity, opting instead to magnify the strength and grandeur of the ultimate feminine image, Mother Nature.
As the melodies soar, the texts all echo the theme – from water deep below the earth to towering ocean waves, to gushing wind to the great vastness of the sky and even to the celestial bodies of our sun and moon.
All the songs are from women composers. Some of them were writing in times when women were discouraged from composing music in favor of male composers (in two cases their husbands!). Others are living composers whose dynamic and imaginative music is making a mark in today’s world.
A premiere composition by ECAS Artistic Director, Alexis Ward, “Child Moon”, and much of the program, will be accompanied by a professional guest instrumental ensemble of piano, percussion, strings and clarinet.
The group’s new Accompanist/Assistant Director Amy Morgan of Easton will be both conducting and on piano.
Students from grades 1 through high school are admitted free when registered in advance as part of an adult ticket order.
