Radio amateurs are ready to assist with emergency response – hurricanes, earthquakes, power outages - but what if that emergency is an asteroid impact? NASA’s Planetary Defense Coordination Office (PDCO) works to avoid that scenario, being tasked with detecting and tracking near-Earth objects (asteroids and comets) and developing impact mitigation strategies and technologies.
