Frederick Douglass Day

The Frederick Douglass Honor Society, the Town of Easton and Talbot County Free Library invite you to join in celebration of the life and legacy of Talbot County native Frederick Douglass, one of the nation’s most prominent figures in African-American and United States history.  An abolitionist, editor, orator, author, statesman, women’s suffragist and reformer, Douglass was a firm believer in equality for all people and was fond of saying, “I would unite with anybody to do right and with nobody to do wrong.”

The celebration will be held in downtown Easton (Dover, West, Glenwood & Federal Sts.) and features a variety of activities to educate and inspire the community and visitors about Douglass and how his writings continue to influence and share our future.

Celeste-Marie Bernier, a Professor of Black Studies and Personal Chair in English Literature at the University of Edinburgh, will be the 2019 guest speaker and Terron Quailes will reenact a speech given by Frederick Douglass.
