THE COUPLE Jessica Parlett, a labor and delivery nurse at University of Maryland Medical Center, and Jeffrey Wilson, a civil engineer for DC Water, met through a friend and “instantly had an amazing connection,” Jessica says. The couple remained friends for a while, but they both knew that what they had was more that friendship, and they soon became inseparable.
THE VENUE Choosing a venue for the both the ceremony and the reception was an easy decision for Jeffrey and Jessica. Jessica had grown up going to the church Jesus the Good Sheppard, and it “meant a lot to her to get married there.” Both Jessica and Jeffrey had been members of the Old South Country Club for a long time, so it seemed like the perfect choice for their wedding reception. “It had the perfect outdoor terrace that would accommodate all of our guests comfortably,” says Jessica.

THE CEREMONY The couple could not have imagined a better ceremony. “Our favorite part was when we first saw each other,” Jessica says. “The look on Jeffrey’s face was priceless and, of course, I couldn’t stop crying.” For the ceremony music, there was a harpist and a vocalist that “sounded beautiful together.” The priest had many things to say about the gift of marriage, “and he linked Jeffrey and I to his message,” says Jessica. The newlyweds thought the ceremony was perfect.

THE CAKE The wedding cake, baked by Sherri’s Cakes and Bake, was an intricately designed three-tiered cake. The flavors included chocolate, vanilla, and lemon, and the decoration featured intricate lace designs with a large green bow at the bottom, which had Jessica’s grandmother’s broach placed in the middle. The bride and groom were very satisfied with their beautiful wedding cake.

THE RECEPTION The reception featured an extended cocktail hour with passed hors d’oeuvres (baked Brie and raspberry tartlets, Hawaiian chicken skewers, mini beef wellingtons, and jumbo shrimp cocktail), so that the new couple could enjoy the company of their guests after the ceremony. Cocktails were served inside the country club and on the side terrace. For the reception, guests were served chicken picatta and stuffed shrimp. Jessica wanted the focus of the reception tables, which were round with golden tan linen, to be the beautiful floral arrangements, which were an assortment of pink, cream, and green flowers. “The overall feeling of the reception was a chic outdoor garden with incredible flowers and greenery,” Jessica says. She and Jeffrey’s first dance of the night was to “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong. “Our favorite part of the day was the reception,” says Jessica. “We had a blast spending time with everyone and dancing the night away.”

The newlyweds see themselves traveling and starting a family in the future as they grow together as a couple.
