Everyone has looked back at an old picture to see that their makeup was not quite as great as they thought it was in the moment. Makeup styles change just as clothing trends do. Here is a list of some of the most popular makeup mess-ups and how to fix them.
Wrong Color Foundation
One of the most common mistakes with makeup revolves around the foundation. Just like any other type of foundation, this lays the groundwork. If the foundation doesn’t match your skin tone, it is likely to throw off the rest of the makeup as well. Many people think that getting a foundation color darker than their normal skin tone will make them look tan, but your secret will be revealed when the foundation stops at your jawline. Get two foundations: one for the winter and one for the summer. Match your face color as closely as you can. When trying to figure out which color to use, stay away from testing it on the back of your hand. The back of your hand can have more redness than in your face. Instead, test the new color on your jawline.
Applying Makeup to Dry Skin
We want to make sure that we are exfoliating our skin once a week and applying a moisturizer or primer to our skin before we apply our foundation. If you apply foundation to dry skin, especially when using a powder foundation, your skin is likely to look flakey and the makeup will sit on top of your skin rather than blending into your skin.
Bronzer All Over
Another big mistake people make is wearing bronzer all over their face rather than just on their forehead, temples, and nose. People have been seen to wear bronzer on their cheeks and chin as well, which is just as bad as having a foundation that is too dark.
Not Cleaning Your Brushes
It is very important to keep your brushes clean. Keeping your brushes fresh will make your makeup looking fresh as well. Having dirty brushes also increases the chances of your skin breaking out more than normal. The best way to clean your brushes is with a mild soap or facial wash, and it doesn’t hurt to replace them often.
Special Summer Makeup
It takes some effort and time to put makeup on, so you don’t want it to melt away just because you are sweating. In the summer, make sure to wear waterproof eyeliner and mascara. Non-waterproof makeup is not only wash away completely throughout the day, but can run down your face, and we don’t want that either.
Eye Shape not Matching Eye Style
Just as colors should match your skin tone, shapes of your eyeliner should complement your eyes. If you have eyes that are closer set, the bold and thick part of the liner should be at the outer corner to widen them, while if you have farther set eyes, the bold and thick part of the liner should be at the inner corner of your eye.
Curling your Lashes Last
If you want to curl your lashes, this should be the first part of the mascara process. When you curl clean and dry lashes, your lashes are less likely to be accidentally pulled out. If you forget to curl them before you apply your mascara, make sure to wait until your mascara is completely dry. If you curl them while the mascara is still wet, your lashes are going to get clumpy and are more likely to be pulled out.
