As foliage begins to bloom outdoors, it’s easy to find colorful inspiration and imagine what pops of pigment might do for your home. This is the season of paint-to-brush-to-wall. Though Pantone recently unveiled “Greenery” as its Color of the Year, each paint company develops its own unique color forecast, often declaring a different “color of the year” with several palettes radiating from its inspiration. Here are a few of the colors they believe will be trend-setters in 2017.
Benjamin Moore announced “Shadow 2117-30” as its color of the year; a rich, royal amethyst. “Shadow is sophisticated, provocative, and poetic, it can ing energy to a space or harmony and a moment of respite,” states the company’s creative director. Their Color Trends 2017 palette features 23 “rich and sophisticated hues ranging from muted pales to saturated deeps.”
Meanwhile, The PPG Pittsburgh Paints and unveiled “Violet Verbena (PPG1169-5)” as its color of the year; “a grayed- off, moody purple with a chameleon-like presence.”
“Violet Verbena is at once as nostalgic as it is modern. It’s substantial in a world that can sometimes seem so temporary, luxurious in a harsh world that needs pampering, and introspective and private in an invasive world,” says Dee Schlotter, senior color marketing manager.
This year, Behr has taken a non-traditional approach to color forecasting. Instead of choosing just one dominant color of the year, its team of experts created a collection of 20 distinct hues “that are curated into separate themes, empowering individuals to choose colors and color combinations that speak to their moods, emotions, and personalities. The colors center around three overarching lifestyle themes: Comfortable, Composed, and Confident,” states the company. The Comfortable palette features soft, tranquil, and versatile colors. They work well for small spaces and help open up areas that do not get a lot of natural light. The Composed palette consists of colors with depth and intensity. Its hues are for those who desire a stronger color experience. The Confident palette is all about vivaciousness and impact. Its colors are saturated and ight, capturing attention and enlivening spaces.
The Sherwin-Williams color forecast includes four palettes that “project a sense of restlessness that will translate to color in new ways next year. With the backdrop of an ever-changing societal and cultural landscape, the four color palettes that make up the year’s forecast share a vision of renewed spirituality, body and soul nourishment, and a determination to define a sense of self,” states the company’s literature.
Named Noir, Holistic, Intrepid, and Unbounded, each palette consists of 10 colors. Noir palette is rich with colors that evoke vine-ripe fruits, Nordic blues, moody neutrals, and golden yellow.
The colors of the Holistic palette (pictured) include arctic neutrals, blush rose, wild owns, and forest floor green. With Intrepid, “youth culture and global collaboration lead to a feisty energy, which influenced this retro palette, including fiery oranges, vi ant kimono colors, and the simplicity of black, white, and gray.” Lastly, in Unbounded, “global consciousness is captured in this palette’s earthy mustards and owns, as well as ocean blues and corals.”
