Just 8 miles from Annapolis Harbor, the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center is the Smithsonian's home for science on the Chesapeake. The SERC campus shelters 2,650 acres of forests, marshes and wetlands, and miles of shoreline waiting to be explored. Visitors can hike, bike or canoe six days a week, or dive more deeply into the science at a free evening lecture. The most avid science fans can even work alongside our ecologists as citizen scientists, helping out in the field or the lab. We're only closed Sundays and federal holidays.
