I have coffee in hand...I'm staring at the computer...in my kitchen; collared shirt on top, sweatpants below. The kids are in the living room singing (a slight distraction). They're in between home-schooling sessions that my wife--god bless her--has been trying to stick to. I can tell my son misses his autism therapy sessions; he's acting up a bit more than normal. So am I...I think. So is...everybody?
Marylanders are entering their second week of school closings due to the COVID-19 situation. Governor Larry Hogan just ordered nonessential businesses to shutter indefinitely. And we should hunker down. Many of us are home, telecommuting if we're lucky, and trying to hold our sanity together. But for many others, this daily struggle extends far beyond maintaining sanity or keeping the kiddos entertained.
The financial burden of COVID-19 is rearing it's ugly head. Small business owners wonder how or if they'll survive the next several weeks (months?). Hardworking parents suddenly find themselves out of work. And the promise of government intervention and an economic stimulus package is held up by partisan politics. (Aren't we in this together?)
So, what can What's Up? Media do to help? First and foremost, we're all-hands-on-deck and fully operational (telecommuting thankfully!). Each day, you'll see us touch base with you--our readers and digital subscribers--with local information about COVID-19, but also about our communities, especially our business neighbors and friends. We'll send e-newsletters--much like this one--with fresh information you can use.
Many businesses are in the unique position of developing creative ways to serve the community. Restaurants are still able to prepare carryout meals and delivery/curbside options. Local gyms are video streaming exercise classes. And many, many more businesses are offering incredible promotions, financing, and additional perks for new and loyal customers. Constantly updated lists and additions can be found here.
What's Up? Media will be your digital platform to learn about these special promotions. We will be your platform to share this information. If you own a business, please share your plans with us and our readers. We invite you to fill out this easy online form with your promotions and business intel. We'll help spread the word!
What's Up? Media will also develop daily digital content, more of the fun stuff you've come to enjoy as a reader of our magazines and digital content. Recently, we shared our favorite streaming movies, TV series, and documentaries. If you're looking for binge-worthy programming, here are our staff picks.
We realize more and more each day that overcoming the COVID-19 situation requires a team effort, and to that end, I'm maintaining an open line of communication with you. Please email me your thoughts, wants, needs, and suggestions as a reader, directly to editor@whatsupmag.com. I'll do my best to respond in a timely manner.
What's Up? Media is here to help you.
