Annapolis, MD (August 10, 2011) – The Governor's Office on Service and Volunteerism announces free family-fun activities from 10:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Maryland State Fair on August 28, 2011 for Governor's Volunteer Appreciation Day. When coupled with the discount entrance passes for Maryland's volunteers, these activities will allow families to save money while enjoying the State Fair.
“Each year Maryland's volunteers give nearly 200 million hours of their time to our communities and we thank them for their service,” said Governor O'Malley. “I invite every volunteer in the State to come to the Maryland State Fair on August 28 to cele ate the 2011 Governor's Volunteer Appreciation Day.”
Children and adults are invited to make jewelry, decorate visors to wear, and perform karaoke under the Governor's tent at the Fair. The Governor's Office is also partnering with Blue Star Families to write cards of thanks to military families and pledge hours of volunteer service at home in support of our active service members. There is no charge to take part in the activities under the tent. The Governor's Volunteer Appreciation Day is presented by the Office of the Governor and the Maryland State Fair.
To thank Maryland's volunteers for their countless hours of volunteer service, Governor O'Malley is offering Maryland's volunteers discounted admission to the Maryland State Fair on August 28, 2011 at the price of $2.00. Each pass allows admission up to five (5) people who have volunteered in Maryland during the past year. The pass will also entitle the patron to discounts on food tickets and discounted ride packages for purchase from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. only on August 28, 2011.
