Dr. O’Reilly received her dental training from Trinity College, University of Dublin, in Ireland, after which she joined The Hospital for Sick Children, Great Ormond Hospital in London, treating children with craniofacial anomalies. She was certified in orthodontics at the Eastman Dental Center in Rochester, New York, and received an M.S. from the University of Rochester’s Graduate School of Medicine and Dentistry. She is also a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and past president of the Anne Arundel County Dental Society. In 2010 she was voted “Best Orthodontist” by What’s Up? Annapolis, The Capital Gazette’s Readers Choice Award and Baltimore Magazine.
rIn addition to her impressive credentials, Dr. O’Reilly keeps up with the constant changes in her specialty by regularly studying at some of the nation’s most prestigious dental training centers, including the Panky Institute, the Dawson Center for Advanced Dental Study, the Piper Education and Research Center, the Seattle Institute for Advanced Dental Education and the Eubank Teaching Institute. “I believe that continuing education is crucial to providing the highest quality, most up-to-date treatment approach,” Dr. O’Reilly says.
rThe world of orthodontics and dentofacial orthopaedics is certainly changing. According to Dr. O’Reilly, “We now live in a digital world and our practice reflects that. We no longer keep paper records, for instance, and with the advent of digital radiography, we’ve streamlined the X-ray process from hours to minutes. Images are now emailed from our office to the patient’s dentist, enabling us to have a ‘real time’ consultation about the patient’s needs. It is a tremendous benefit to our patients as it significantly cuts their radiation exposure.”
rOne of the newest fields in orthodontics is temporary orthodontic implants. Dr. O’Reilly explains that these have had a tremendous impact on how care is delivered to adult patients. “Using a temporary implant, I can now move teeth that couldn’t be moved in the past,” Dr. O’Reilly says. “This has been an incredible advance in complex and multi-specialty cases, giving the patient very predictable results.”
