Not visible from the street, this Davidsonville home offers splendid views of a bountiful orchard, mature woods and ample lawn as visitors ride up the long driveway. The first glimpse of the traditional brick-and-black-shuttered colonial, ensconced amongst lush landscaping, is striking. Abutting a nature preserve, the property appears even larger than its already significant two+ acres.

Its private setting combined with its location in a community known for fine homes made it truly special, concur both buying and selling representatives. “You’d have a hard time finding something like this in very many places,” adds listing agent Margaret Woda, a realtor and associate broker with Long & Foster.
To fully enjoy the stunning setting, there’s a 1,700-square-foot raised wood deck, which spans the entire back of the home and includes a hot tub and more beautiful views of the backyard. A tray-ceiling sunroom, bordered by trees, offers views of the front, side and back of the home. Built by NV Homes in 1999, the house features an open floor plan with a two-story family room and upstairs landing. Several of the rooms contain special shelving to display the museum-quality collections the previous owners acquired from around the world.
Other nice touches include chair railing and crown molding, a family room fireplace and a large unfinished basement. The countertops, carpeting and fixtures reflect its original 1999 style, so the new owners plan to extensively update the kitchen, flooring and paint, which should enhance the setting all the more.

With two busy military careers, a young and growing family, and a relocation to this area after several years stationed abroad, the right setting was critical for these buyers. “We [chose this home], first, because it was close to downtown, historic Annapolis. It’s not quite off the beaten path, but it is quiet. And, one of the most important aspects was the quality and design of the house,” says new homeowner Trey Jordan, a colonel in the U.S. Army.
Indeed, the newly constructed house, with its Craftsman-like influences (wide front porch, tapered square beams and enhanced siding), captures the charm and distinctive character of this bedroom community. A small custom builder, Chris Murchake of C.M. Homes, Inc., also built several other houses in the neighborhood and tries to maintain the old-school maritime look of Eastport while seamlessly incorporating high-end elements to appeal to today’s families. Outside, for example, the rustic façade is actually durable HardiePlank siding and Azek trim, with neutral slate and stone on the patio.
Indoors, there’s the same attention to detail: Elegant arches frame several rooms; rounded bullnose edges can be found on all the drywall; a coffered ceiling highlights the family room; flat, glass-paned pocket doors separate the living and dining rooms; a convenient laundry room is located on the second floor. The light-filled kitchen includes natural cherry cabinetry, neutral granite, a Sub-Zero refrigerator and Wolf stove.
The master bedroom has a dramatic cathedral ceiling and is accompanied by an equally striking master bathroom, with its frameless glass and stone sit-in shower, soaking tub, vivid granite, and oil-rubbed bronze fixtures and hardware for contrast. A fully finished basement includes a nanny suite, rec area and small wine cellar.
The community offers convenient and inexpensive water privileges just at the end of the road, with three docks, boat slips and a kayak area. Plus, the Chesapeake Bay Trust recently worked with the marina to create a “living shoreline,” using regional stones, sand and grasses to safeguard against erosion and enrich the area for local wildlife (apparently, they appreciate the setting too).

The entrance opens to a two-story foyer with an elegant curved staircase and gleaming hardwood floors, leading to a main-level office/den with built-in bookshelves, formal living and dining rooms with decorative columns, chair rails and paint techniques, as well as a tiled sunroom with skylights.
Certainly, the most impressive area on the main floor revolves around the gourmet kitchen and accompanying great room. The granite/stainless steel/cherry wood kitchen has decorative backsplash detailing, a sitting area at the island, as well as a custom-built cherry table featuring banquette window seating looking onto the backyard. The great room’s fireplace, with its neutral-toned, arched-brick hearth, mirrors the windows in the room, particularly a huge Palladian overlooking the deck. The master bedroom’s sitting area includes French doors that open to a balcony above the great room, another unique touch.
The finished basement has a separate bedroom, rec area, wet bar and walkout to the back, which features a large sports court, set off with a manicured retaining wall, along with an adjustable basketball hoop.
Being local to the area, the new homeowners were familiar with the neighborhood’s appeal and certainly were enamored with the huge, well-maintained home. It helped that it was freshly painted, with colors they enjoyed, and thus, this setting was move-in ready.
