Assateague Island, Maryland

This 37-mile long barrier island is off the coast of Maryland and Delaware and includes Assateague Island National Seashore, Assateague State Park, and Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge. While there, check out the feral horses that roam the pristine beaches and the Assateague Lighthouse.

Bethany Beach, Delaware

Dewey Beach, Delaware

Dewey Beach’s wide sandy beaches invite locals, families, and co-eds. A smaller beach destination than many others, Dewey is a popular spot during warm summer days. Although the year-round population hovers around 300 people, more than 35,000 people visit during beach season. This mile-long beach rests on a strip between Rehoboth Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Enjoy relative peace and quiet in Dewey during the off-season.

Fenwick Island, Delaware

Fenwick Island traces its history back to 1680 when Lord Baltimore granted a tract of land as a fishing harbor. The land was later given to Thomas Fenwick, although he never lived at the location. It is commonly known that Delaware’s southern border starts in Fenwick Island. Three bridges have been built to the mainland, with the first one built in 1880. Now, the year-round population is more than 300 residents, a number that continues to rise as the demand for homes along Delaware’s southern border increases.

Lewes, Delaware

Known as the First Town in the First State, Lewes is home to a large fleet of charter fishing boats and is an east coast port of call. Lewes has been growing in recent years, with cottages and mom-and-pop stores being replaced with modern beach homes, bistros, and boutiques. Tourism helps the area to grow and full-time residents who settle here are looking for a slower lifestyle and lower taxes.

Ocean City, Maryland

This famous beach first received paying guests in 1869 to a single-story inn. Later, the first boardwalk was constructed in 1902. Today, Ocean City is a year-round destination with millions of visitors to the 10-mile long barrier reef filled with lodging, dining, shopping, amusement, and more. It is truly a landmark east coast destination when looking for a quintessential beach vacation.

Rehoboth Beach, Delaware
