In the months of June through November, there's always a chance of a powerful hurricane barrelling up the East Coast, so now is the time to brush up on your preparedness, response and recovery techniques to ensure the safety of you and your loved ones. r5. Evacuate if instructed to leave.

r8. Make sure all your tools, supplies, first aid, food, fuel and personal items are ready for use.
rWhat to do during the storm:
r1. Stay in a secure room and away from windows.
r2. Don't use the telephone or candles.
r3. Monitor weather and civic service bulletins on regular or NOAA weather radio.
r4. Have supplies on hand.
r5. Remain indoors when the eye of the hurricane moves over your area, the storm will resume shortly.
rWhat to do after the storm:
r1. Make sure everyone is safe and accounted for.
r2. Monitor the radio for information from emergency management.
r3. Before venturing outside, ensure the storm has completely passed.
r4. Report downed power lines and stay away from them.
