Waning Gibbous: "During the second half of the lunar month, the Moon grows thinner each night. We call this waning. Its shape is still gibbous at this point, but grows a little thinner each night."

Rockfish: The cooler weather has lowered the water temperature and fishing has really picked up! Fish are spread out all over the place. There is a good rockfish bite in many of the local rivers such as the Magothy, Severn, Patapsco and Chester, but most of the best reports are still in the main bay, from just north of the bridge down to the Chesapeake Beach area. Love Point, the mouths of the rivers, the Bay Bridge and Thomas Point are hot spots for jigging and livelining. Trolling the channel edges or even trolling in the rivers is productive as well. Now is the time of year to troll tandems, four arm umbrellas with six inch shads, or large spoons on in-line planers. There are also reports of nice sized rockfish being caught in shallow water using paddletails or jerk baits, particularly as you head south in the bay. Also try topwater arounds points in the morning and evening!
Perch: There are still some nice sized perch in shallow water in the rivers and creeks! You can target larger 10-13 inch perch using 3-4 inch paddletails on 1/4 oz jig heads. They are also schooling up in deeper water over hard bottom and oyster beds towards the mouths of the rivers and in the main bay!
Snakehead: The snakehead bite continues to be really good, especially in the afternoon when the shallow water warms up. They’re actively feeding on schools of bait to prepare for winter, so minnows we work well along with paddletails and chatterbaits. The typical lower Eastern Shore spots are producing along with the Magothy and the Severn.
Speckled Trout: We are still seeing a nice run of large sized speckled trout in the lower bay. Try fishing out of Point Lookout or Crisfield around Jane’s Island. Four to five inch paddletails on 1/4 oz jig heads or popping corks are still the lures to use!
Crabbing: Crabbing has been excellent this week! You may not catch large numbers of crabs but the ones that you catch will be big and full! The Chester River, the Severn River and Whitehall Bay have been producing and both razor clams and chicken necks are working well. Crab in the middle of the day when it’s warm and sunny, and you’ll want to set your traps a little bit deeper than you do in the warmer months.
