Annapolis Symphony Orchestra Masterworks III: Raging Fire with Tchaikovsky & Sibelius

This performance fans the flames of musical passion. Artistic Director and Conductor José-Luis Novo explores the power of fire while using orchestral music to speak to stories of darkness and light. "Fire is inextricably linked to the progress of humanity. This evening's music explores themes of creation, destruction, power, emotion, and passion: all fiery topics!" In Masterworks III the Annapolis Symphony reconnects with the music of Thai composer Narong Prangcharoen. After winning the Annapolis Symphony’s Annapolis Charter 300 Young Composers Competition in 2008, Prangcharoen has made a name for himself on the international stage and in his homeland of Thailand.

A noted Gershwin interpreter at the keyboard, Wayne Marshall celebrates the 100th anniversary of Rhapsody in Blue “a quick wit and a cool head, the ability to convey (just as Gershwin strove to do) the jazzman’s freewheeling, rhapsodic manner alongside a concert pianist’s formality.” (Gramophone) Leading three other American classics from the conductor’s podium, Marshall finds the common thread among Copland’s spiky tribute to the theater, Bernstein’s dreamy dance sequence from a Broadway hit, and Ellington’s tribute to the Manhattan neighborhood where Black culture soared.
Wings of Legacy: Stories of Black Aviation

Join the College Park Aviation Museum and celebrate stories of Black aviation, past and present. Get a sneak peek at updates coming to the Columbia Air Center gallery, be inspired during a Black Aviators tour, get creative with Arts on a Roll, and celebrate pioneering spirits with Black History Month arts and activities for all ages. Interact with the Sankofa Mobile Museum and a virtual reality experience, learn about African Americans in the aviation field while visiting partner tables, and meet Prince George’s County native Caleb Smith, who became the youngest glider pilot in the world.
Winter Hike at Bacon Ridge Natural Area

Take in winter’s unique beauty with a serene hike through your local, protected forest! Scenic Rivers staff will lead a guided hike of the southern portion of Bacon Ridge Natural Area, which is forever protected by a conservation easement coheld by Scenic Rivers Land Trust and Maryland Environmental Trust.

Chad Michael Murray Meet and Greet

Westfield Annapolis will host popular actor and former model, Chad Michael Murray, for a meet and greet on Saturday, February 3rd from 12:30-3pm. The event will be held in the courtyard outside Lululemon and California Pizza Kitchen. Murray, best known for his roles in One Tree Hill, Agent Carter, Riverdale and films like A Cinderella Story, Freaky Friday and Fruitvale Station, will be at the center to take photos, sign autographs and meet with fans young and old.

A Winter’s Journey tells the story of a man and woman who each wander through the cold of winter mourning their lost loves. Pairing a curated selection of Schubert’s Winterreise (in an English translation by Jeremy Sams) with some of Maury Yeston’s companion song cycle December Songs, this fully staged performance piece uses visual elements, dance, and supertitles to assist in the storytelling brought to the stage by the singers and the piano. Jennifer Blades and Jason Buckwalter play the part of the man and woman. Nicole Kelsch is the dancer. Andrew Stewart is music director and pianist. Originally conceived of and directed by Jennifer Blades.
