3rd Annual Flags for Cancer Community Fundraiser
Full Month of August; Easton
This August, the Tidewater Rotary Club will be raising colorful flags around Easton for the third consecutive year of Flags for Cancer. Each color represents a type of cancer and every flag represents our friends and neighbors that have battled the disease. The event, sponsored by individuals and businesses, will provide a beautiful visual display of colored flags throughout Easton. More importantly, Flags for Cancer aims to keep awareness for cancer in the forefront and provide an important source of fundraising for two vital organizations helping people locally.

Oysters clean Chesapeake Bay waters and provide habitat for other (delicious!) species like blue crabs, rockfish, and white perch. Did you know that eating oysters and recycling their shells leads to more oysters returned to the Bay? One reclaimed shell becomes a home for 10X as many babies! ORP, the nonprofit expert in Chesapeake Bay oyster restoration, relies on Shell Recycling Alliance restaurants to provide shell critical for oyster restoration efforts.

Held rain or shine since 1946, the Annual Rotary Crab Feast is one of the longest-running, and most popular, summertime traditions in Annapolis! Known as “the world’s largest crab feast,” the all-you-can-eat (and drink) event invites folks from near and far to get their fill of Maryland’s famous blue crabs – plus Maryland vegetable crab soup, sweet Maryland corn on the cob, beef barbeque sandwiches, all-American hot dogs, watermelon, draft beer, and assorted sodas and water – at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium each August. The Rotary Club of Annapolis directs 100% of proceeds from the event to the local community and cultural nonprofit organizations through grants of up to $4,000. Plus, the organization works with Annapolis Green, a local environmental group, to keep the Feast “zero-waste” by collecting and turning roughly 20,000 pounds of crab shells, corn cobs, watermelon rinds, plates, cups, cutlery, and napkins into “Christmas Crab Compost” that is sold to the public each December.
