// Hot But Literate
Brittany and Chris met on Bumble in 2016. “Chris had pictures of himself outside, with dogs, relaxing with his cardigan open, and no shirt on poolside,” Brittany recounts. She liked his beard and thought he looked like he might be her type: “hot, but literate.” They met up for drinks in Woodley Park, where Chris wooed Brittany with photos of his family’s pets and she confessed that her personal goal was to have more dogs than children. Chris left the date very impressed, especially by Brittany’s “power move” of paying the bill while Chris took a bathroom break, although he was less impressed by her outfit, leggings and a matronly, oversized sweater, which had “zero sex appeal.”

// A Pro-Pet (And Sailboat!) Setup
In January 2017, the couple took their first trip together and visited Annapolis. They loved the coastal city so much that they decided to buy a house there in November 2018, not long after they purchased a 30-foot Pearson sailboat. “We’ve had a lot of adventures together sailing all over the Bay and Chris proposed to me on the bow of our boat in downtown Annapolis,” Brittany says. So, having their reception in America’s sailing capital made a lot of sense. They chose their venue, the Annapolis Maritime Museum, for its stellar Bay view, accessible dock (which allowed them to incorporate their sailboat), affordability, and pet-friendly policy. “Our rescue dog child Opal and my family dog/puppy sister Lucy were able to walk down the aisle as part of our wedding party,” Brittany says.

// No-Navy Nautical
Although Brittany’s vision skewed nautical, she avoided the typical navy, white and gold palette, opting instead for a boho version of the theme, with lanterns, a macrame curtain, and natural wood accents. Other than the ceremony arbor, which Chris built, the museum didn’t need much decoration. Brittany and Chris were more concerned with creating a fun atmosphere. They supplied welcome shots of fireball and lemon drops and carefully curated the ideal playlist. ‘“WAP” by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion was played at least 15 times that night,’ Brittany says. A high school friend, Stephan Zimmerman, served as the officiant and also performed the couple’s first dance song: “Cover Me Up” by Morgan Wallen.

// For Your Viewing Pleasure
One of Brittany’s favorite moments was listening to toasts from her family and wedding party. "The Maritime Museum had a projector, and two out of the five speakers took advantage and put on detailed PowerPoints as a backdrop to their speeches," she says. "We laughed so hard, we cried."

// Rave at the Museum
Brittany and Chris were very satisfied with their vendors, who they found through friends and via WeddingWire.
About their caterer: “Be My Guest Catering weathered the COVID storm with us as we were waffling about what to do. Sandy was so patient and nice to us, which meant so much at the time.
About their DJ: “Andrew of Extraordinary Entertainment was the perfect MC and DJ for our wedding – he understood our musical goals and helped us personalize our entrance into the reception (“it’s Brittany (and Chris), betch.” Think the beginning of Britney Spears’ song, “Gimme More.”).
About their day-of-coordinator: “What really made the difference in our planning/execution process was working with Evin Moss of the Coordinated Collective. My best friend/bridesmaid, Ja’el Mendez owns the Coordinate Collective, so she strongly recommended we get a day-of coordinator. I’m glad she did. Working with Evin was hands down one of the best decisions we made for our wedding. She helped us think through the logistics and loose ends and brought up things that never crossed my mind. A true wedding wizard.”
