It used to be that sheet cakes were the practical confection your catering team hid in the back, while your “real” (pretty but small) cake was there for the photograph. Then came 2024 and suddenly the long sheet cake, or centerpiece cake, is what everyone wants to see and eat. “Weddings can feel very same-y after you’ve been to a few, so couples are always looking for ways to stand out from the crowd,” explains Celeste Scott of Butter Bakery in Newcastle, Australia. “Playing with the proportions of the cake by going long instead of tall is really unexpected and creates a wow moment for guests when they first see it.”
