October means sweaters, pumpkins, and, in Maryland's case, great concerts. Rather than over-indulging in Halloween candy, treat yourself to some live music. Phil Collins: Capital One Arena, D.C., October 7th
In his nearly five decades-long career, Phil Collins has gained enormous success as a singer, songwriter, producer, and actor. The former Genesis front man has won a total of eight Grammy Awards, three American Music Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and an Oscar. This month, Collins is touring North America for the first time in 12 years. His Not Dead Yet Tour comes to Capital One Arena on Sunday, October 7th, 8 p.m. Ticket prices vary and are available here.
Melissa Etheridge: Avalon Foundation at Chesapeake College, Wye Mills, October 9th
Since releasing her certified double platinum debut album in 1988, Melissa Etheridge has established herself as a rock music icon. Best known for her songs “Bring Me Some Water” and “Come to My Window”, Etheridge is a Grammy and Oscar award-winning musician and a prominent voice in the LGBT community. In 2016, she released the song “Pulse” in response to the mass shooting in Orlando. All sales from the song benefit Equality Florida, the state's largest LGBT civil rights organization. Etheridge will be performing at the Avalon Foundation at Chesapeake College on Tuesday, October 9th, 8 p.m. Tickets start at $75 and are available here.
Florence + The Machine: The Anthem, D.C., October 5th & 6th
In 2009, English indie-rock band Florence + The Machine gained almost instantaneous success upon the release of their debut album, Lungs, which peaked at No. 14 on Billboard 200. Best known for their hit singles “Dog Days Are Over”, “Shake It Out”, and “Hunger”, the band has released four successful studio albums and received a total of six Grammys. In cele ation of the release of their newest album, High As Hope, the band announced a 23-city North American tour, which includes two performances at The Anthem on Friday, October 5th and Saturday, October 6th, 8 p.m. Ticket prices vary and are available here.
Eric Hutchinson & The Believers: Rams Head On Stage, Annapolis, October 13th and 14th
Best known for his single “Rock & Roll”, Eric Hutchinson is a platinum-selling singer-songwriter who has been entertaining audiences with his genre-blending sounds for over a decade. For the first time ever, Hutchinson ought his touring band, The Believers, into the studio with him. The result is Modern Happiness, Hutchinson’s fifth studio album which he has been releasing one song at a time since January 2018. Eric Hutchinson & The Believers will be performing at Rams Head on Stage on Saturday, October 13th and Sunday, October 14th, 8 p.m. Tickets are $35 and available here.
Jonny Lang: Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, Annapolis, October 17th
Though only 36-years-old, Jonny Lang's music career is already two decades long. At the age of 15, Lang released his first platinum record, Lie to Me, which debuted at No. 1on Billboard’s New Artist chart. Since then, Lang has released a total of eight albums, five of which have charted on the top 50 of the Billboard 200. His album Turn Around won a Grammy for Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album. Lang is inging his gospel-blues sound to Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts on Wednesday, October 17th, 8 p.m. Tickets range from $65–75 and are available here.
