The sun may be setting on summer, and soon enough the temperatures will begin to cool, but Maryland's music scene is holding onto the summer heat. Fall into fall by checking out some of the great bands and musicians headed our way this month. Third Eye Blind & The Struts: Maryland State Fairgrounds, Timonium, September 7th
Best known for hit singles like “Semi-Charmed Life,” “Graduate,” and “Jumper”, Third Eye Blind has recorded four best-selling albums, including their seven-times platinum debut album. The band will be headlining the Baltimore Ravens' Countdown to Kickoff Party at the Maryland State Fairgrounds alongside U.K. rock band The Struts on Friday, September 7th. The Struts will perform at 8 p.m., followed by Third Eye Blind at 9 p.m. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $35 for reserved pit, and can be purchased here.
Bret Michaels: Rams Head on Stage, Annapolis, September 10th
As front man for the rock band Poison, Bret Michaels sold 25 million records and had 15 Top 40 singles, including the #1 hit “Every Rose Has Its Thorn.” The multi-platinum musician continues to work as a singer, songwriter, producer, and actor. Bret Michaels will be performing at Rams Head on Stage on Monday, September 10th, 8 p.m. Tickets are $85 and available here.
Paul Simon: Capital One Arena, Washington D.C., September 14th
Since his beginnings as one half of the folk-rock duo Simon & Garfunkel, Paul Simon has continued to build a distinguished career as a singer and songwriter. The 12-time Grammy Award winner was the recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors in 2002, was named one of Time Magazine’s “100 People Who Shape Our World” in 2006, and is a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame. Paul Simon will be performing at Capital One Arena on Friday, September 14th, 8 p.m. Ticket prices start at $50 and are available here.
Alison Krauss: The Anthem, Washington D.C., September 18th
Alison Krauss' love for music, specifically bluegrass, began at an early age. Krauss was signed to her first record at the age of 14, released her debut album at age 16, and became a member of the Grand Ole Opry at age 21. Since 1985, Krauss has released a total of 14 albums, including the Robert Plant collaboration Raising Sand, which was certified platinum and won five Grammy Awards. Portugal. The Man: Merriweather Post Pavilion, Columbia, September 21st
Indie-rock group Portugal. The Man is best known for their hit song “Feel It Still”, which reached number one on Top 40 radio and peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100 before winning them a Grammy Award this past January. Coming off the heels of the 2017 release of their eighth full-length studio album Woodstock, Portugal. The Man have hit the road for a North American tour. The group will be performing at Merriweather Post Pavilion on Friday, September 21st, 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices start at $45 and are available here.
Daughtry: Ocean City Inlet, September 22nd
Chris Daughtry rose to stardom during the fifth season of American Idol, but his music career didn’t stop there. Since then, the front man for Daughtry, the band bearing his name, has released four albums, all of which made the Billboard Top Ten and have sold a combined eight million copies nationwide. Daughtry will be the headlining performance at Ocean City’s Sunfest, taking place Thursday, September 20th through Saturday, September 22nd. For more information, click here.
