The fact that it's 70 degrees outside has this editor confused. But don't bust out the flip flops and swim trunks just yet; it won't last. Put the sunbathing on hold and attend one of these beachy events instead.

Cele ate Shark Day
Since it's still too cold to get in the ocean – with the exception of for the Polar Bear Plunge, of course – why not stay dry and learn about the ocean's awesome predators? Kids will get a chance to view shark teeth, see how the animals adapt, and more. That should keep you out of the water for a little while. This talk takes place at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center in Edgewater from11 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Cost is $5. Call 443-482-2300 to register.

Learn about Vodka from Punk's
Grab a date and head to this mixer. Instead of mingling with socialites, you'll be learning to make drinks. Part of the monthly beer and cocktail class series at Punk's Backyard Grill, this one focuses on vodka. The class is $30 per person, and it includes snacks and drinks. You’ll sample appetizers you won’t find on the regular Punk’s menu, and, of course, get ample tastes of the good stuff. You’ll go home with three recipes to try on your own – and a deeper knowledge of just what makes vodka special. Call 410-571-7744 to RSVP. The class is Sunday from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

See Masterpieces in LEGOs
You may think this is a kids-only event, but I'm over 30 and I think looking at 15 famous buildings created with the ubiquitous plastic icks is pretty awesome. These masterpieces are making an appearance at the National Building Museum in D.C. from 10 to 5 on Saturday and 11 to 5 on Sunday, thanks to the mind and fingers of architect Adam Reed Tucker. It’s $5 for admission, and kids under 4 are free. Can’t make it this weekend? You have until September 5th.
