University of Maryland Emergency Medicine and Shore Health System congratulate Dr. Tom Chiccone on being named one of the Eastern Shore's Top Docs for 2011. Chosen by his physician peers for this honor, our organizations have long known Dr. Chiccone as a dedicated and compassionate Emergency physician we are proud to have working with us on the Eastern Shore.
Dr. Chiccone is a board certified Emergency Medicine physician who completed his medical degree at Georgetown University Medical School and his Emergency residency training at Wake Forest University Medical Center. He came to the Eastern Shore in 1993 and joined University of Maryland Emergency Medicine in 1999 when it established its community practice on the Eastern Shore at Memorial Hospital at Easton and Dorchester General in Cam idge. The practice expanded in October 2010 with the opening of the Queen Anne's Emergency Center located just off Route 50 at Nesbit Road in Grasonville. Today, Dr. Chiccone continues to serve the citizens of the Eastern Shore communities in the Emergency Departments at Memorial Hospital at Easton and Dorchester General Hospital.
Dr. Chiccone has a strong interest in pre-hospital care and directs the medical education of EMTs and paramedics in the Allied Health Division of Chesapeake College. He also serves as the Jurisdictional Medical Director of Talbot County's Department of Emergency Services and the Region IV Medical Director for the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS). In these roles, he is the primary physician who oversees and coordinates the pre-hospital needs of the citizens of the Eastern Shore. Most recently, in his role as Medical Director for Talbot County, Dr. Chiccone oversaw the emergency evacuation of patients at Dorchester General Hospital during Hurricane Irene.
As a University of Maryland Emergency Medicine (UMEM) physician, living and working on the Eastern Shore, Dr. Chiccone — and his physician colleagues — experiences the best of both worlds: exposure to a oad range of professional resources and educational opportunities expected from one of the nation's premier academic institutions while living in the Maryland community he loves. The Shore Health System affiliation with University of Maryland Emergency Medicine provides support to these committed Emergency physicians as they practice on the Shore. Dr. Chiccone recently noted, “The primary advantage of my affiliation with the University of Maryland Emergency Medicine Network has been its oad access for career development and professional advancement.”
Dr. Chiccone and his wife recently cele ated their 15th wedding anniversary and live in Centreville. When he's not caring for patients at the hospital, Dr. Chiccone enjoys time at home with his growing family and listening to his favorite blues music. You might also find him at Pintail Point shooting sport clays.
