Meet the Winemaker/Owner
to
Fishpaws Market Place 954 Ritchie Highway, Arnold, Maryland 21012
Come meet winemaker/owner Anne-Charlotte Mélia Bachas from Château la Font du Loup | Châteauneuf-du-Pape | France. Located at one of the highest points in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Château Font du Loup, which translates to “fountain of the wolves,” is named after the natural spring in the area where the wolves from the Ventoux would come to drink. Font du Loup has been in the Mélia family since 1943, and is now run by the extremely charming Anne-Charlotte Mélia-Bachas with her husband Laurent and the help of consultant Philippe Combie.
One cannot speak of the terroir of Châteauneuf-du-Pape without mentioning the ever-present Mistral winds; winds that can reach speeds of more than 100 miles per hour. The mistral serves many purposes, like keeping the vineyards cleaned from mold caused by humidity or rain. But it also puts the vines through a great deal of stress. That's a headache for the winemaker, but part of what makes Châteauneuf-du-Pape truly one of the greatest terroirs in the world.
