Talbot County Empty Bowls 12th Annual Community Dinner
Immanuel Lutheran Church 7215 Ocean Gateway, Easton, Maryland 21601
The 12th annual Talbot County Empty Bowls community dinner will be held on Sunday, February 23, 2020, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Easton. Tickets for seatings at 5:00 pm and 6:30 pm go on sale January 1, 2020.
Tickets only available in advance of the dinner are $20 per person. The ticket price includes a handmade or hand-painted bowl, a variety of soups made by local chefs, bread, homemade cookies, and cider. This event sells out every year so supporters are encouraged to purchase tickets at www.talbotcountyemptybowls.org early in January.
Talbot County Empty Bowls operates with a two-fold mission: to fill local food pantry shelves and to expand ripples of awareness about food insecurity in Talbot County. Since its first dinner in 2009, Talbot County Empty Bowls has distributed $199,000 to local organizations that feed the hungry 365 days a year.
The non-profit organizations that will receive funds raised at the 2020 Talbot County Empty Bowls community dinner are: Asbury Methodist Church, Easton; Care Packs, Easton; Christ Church St. Michaels Food Pantry; Harvest of Hope Food Pantry, Easton; Neighborhood Service Center, Easton; Presbyterian Church, Easton; St. Michaels Community Center Food Pantry; St. Vincent de Paul Society, Easton; Scotts United Methodist Church, Trappe; and Tilghman Island Food Pantry.
Anna Harding, who sparked the idea for Talbot County Empty Bowls, says, “For 11 years every penny raised at the community dinner has been donated to organizations committed to eliminating hunger in Talbot County. This is possible because of the many volunteers who give of their time and the generous financial support of sponsors, gifts of goods and services, and donations of bowls hand-made and painted by local artists, students and community members.”
Beginning on January 1, 2020, Talbot County Empty Bowls supporters can paint bowls at Kiln Born Creations located at 1 S. Washington Street in Easton. Bowls painted at Kiln Born are donated for the Empty Bowls dinner along with a portion of the studio fee. Call Kiln Born at 410-770-9091 for more information.
Talbot County Empty Bowls is partnering this year with Bayside Quilters. The quilters are making and donating soup cozies, pieces of quilting squares sewn together with insulation that keep soup hot and hands safe from hot soup bowls. The soup cozies will be on sale for $8 at the February 23 community dinner.
Although the community dinner is the signature fundraiser for Talbot County Empty Bowls, donations are accepted throughout the year. Make credit card donations at www.talbotcountyemptybowls.org. Donations can also be made by check made payable to Talbot County Empty Bowls and mailed to Mid-Shore Community Foundation, 102 E. Dover Street, Easton, MD 21601.
