4-Week Drawing Class for ages 12-16. Join veteran Annapolis artist John O'Neill and learn the foundations of drawing.
First Week:
Concentration will be about Line, and how it's used in all stages of a drawing from beginning to finish. Students should expect to be actively engaged in drawing for the entire time allotted.
Paper pencils and erasers will be provided.
Second Week:
Observation of Lights and Darks. Participants will be studying how the change in Value (Shadows) can enhance the impact of objects in a drawing. After a brief demonstration, students will be using Soft black pencils and white drawing pencil on grey paper.
Third Week:
Drawing as a tool to understand why something looks the way it does (Observation) or seeing things from a different point of view, also known as Perspective. Group will draw together for the beginning of the lesson then add their individual touch. This drawing requires the use of rulers and pencil on white drawing paper.
Fourth Week:
Expand on the previous lessons by applying the knowledge to drawing the human head then trying the whole figure. A variety of materials will be used in these briefs lessons. Colored chalks, markers, pencils, colored pencils , and colored paper will be incorporated. Students will be expected to investigate possibilities and be willing to accept the chance of having to start over once in a while.
