Winter Lecture Series: Annapolis Craftsmen in the 18th Century
O'Briens 113 Main Street, Annapolis, Maryland 21401
Craftsmen, or artisans, occupied the middling strata of town life, but their place in Annapolis was very different then in an urban center like Philadelphia or the rural plantation areas of the Chesapeake. The trades they followed, and their success or failure, depended as much on their place in a world of international trade as it did upon their skill. Historian Jean Russo will survey the trades found in colonial Annapolis and some of the men and women who practiced them.
Following the lecture, take a short walk to HA’s living history site, Hogshead, at 43 Pinkney Street, a hands-on experience that features the tradespeople of colonial Annapolis.
