Benkovich Orthodontics
John A. Benkovich, III, DDS, MS, believes the most rewarding part of being an orthodontist is creating beautiful smiles. “I enjoy interacting with my patients and seeing how they change when their smiles are improved,” he says. “They develop selfconfidence and smile a lot, and I love seeing that.”
Benkovich Orthodontics provides a variety of orthodontic treatments in a comfortable, inviting, and professional setting. Although the community is well aware of Dr. Benkovich’s expertise in treating complex adult cases, they may not realize that his focus is on treating children. A “kid-centric” practice, Benkovich Orthodontics provides a fun environment that makes treatment a pleasant experience for children of all ages. In fact, children comprise about 75 percent of the practice.
“I enjoy treating children and seeing the changes in their smiles as they grow into confident adolescents,” says Dr. Benkovich. “Our office welcomes new patients into the practice each week and the more children, the merrier! Many of the parents of our patients are also in treatment. It’s one big family here.”
Services provided at Benkovich Orthodontics include aces with colors, clear aces, selfligating aces, and Invisalign (clear plastic trays align teeth). Treatment time typically ranges from one to three years, depending on the individual. So shortening the duration of treatment is appealing to many patients and that’s why Dr. Benkovich is certified in Wilckodontics and uses the Propel system when needed.
Wilckodontics offers a speedier orthodontic treatment with highly stable results, and most cases can be completed in three to 12 months. (Some cases may take longer.) Treatment involves a one-time surgical procedure performed by a periodontist that is coordinated with the orthodontic procedure.
Benkovich Orthodontics also specializes in dentofacial orthopedics, which involves growth modification, or correcting imbalances, so children’s teeth and jaws grow more evenly. In addition, Dr. Benkovich works with local surgeons in a coordinated orthodontic/surgical/combined treatment with profound treatment outcomes.
Dr. Benkovich is patient focused and takes a great deal of pride in his work. He appreciates that every patient’s time is valuable and believes that treatment should be customized to the individual and completed in a timely matter. Most important, he wants patients and/or their family to have fun while they are in the office.
The dedicated staff at Benkovich Orthodontics is extremely educated, knowledgeable, and friendly. A well-unified team of six members, Allie, Carole, and Cyndy comprise the front administrative staff, and the clinical staff includes Niya, Terri, and Roxanne. They are excited to work with each patient, and they work hard to make the process as easy as possible and ensure that each patient’s experience is pleasant.

Q. I see a lot of eight-year-old children in aces and also around age 12. When I was younger, we got aces much later. Can my child wait?
A. Yes. In fact, most children can wait until 11, 12, or 13 before beginning treatment, but some cannot. The trick is knowing which problems need early orthodontic treatment and which can wait. Research and my 20 years of experience indicate that we don’t need to treat every imbalance or crooked tooth at age eight or nine, and my job is to educate the patient and parent to help them understand their options.
