A night of memories, laughter and music is in store Wednesday, Aug. 10, for those joining Anne Arundel Community College faculty, staff, students, alumni and the family and friends of the late Robert E. Kauffman, professor emeritus, to cele ate his life and dedicate the theater and adjoining areas in his name.
The 7 p.m. event at the Pascal Center for Performing Arts on the Arnold campus is open to the community. Due to limited seating in the soon-to-be named Kauffman Theater, guests must have a ticket to attend. RSVP for up to five tickets at the theater box office by calling 410-777-2457; leave a message with your name, phone number and number of tickets.
Pick up reserved tickets at the box office Aug. 8, 9 or 10; call the box office for hours. Tickets not reserved before the event will be available at the door. Reserved tickets not picked up by 7 p.m. Aug. 10 will be distributed on a first-come, first served basis. A reception will follow the event.
The Board of Trustees in May voted to dedicate the theater within the Pascal Center for Performing Arts in Kauffman's name in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to and profound influence on the college Performing Arts department and the community. Among his accomplishments, Kauffman directed more than 70 student/community theater productions, designed the college's theater arts curriculum and planned the production and performance facilities for the Pascal Center for Performing Arts and Cade Center for Fine Arts.
Theater areas to be named for Kauffman, nicknamed “The Chief” by students and colleagues during his 30 years of service to AACC, are the inner lobby, box office, technician's booth, auditorium and seating, orchestra pit, stage, scene shop, backstage and green room.
