Offering 6 concerts in August that are free to the public.
Annapolis, MD (8-2-11) Mayor Joshua J. Cohen is proud to announce that for two weeks in August Hopkins Plaza, near the Market House, will be home to a musical art series inging together Annapolis musicians performing a range of styles.
The local musicians will perform original and traditional music from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. on Hopkins Plaza with styles that include Caribbean, “Old Time,” rock, jazz, folk, stomp and classical.
"The City remains committed to eathing new life into downtown," Mayor Cohen said. "Weekday evenings are generally a little slower, and this Artist Showcase should give another reason for people to enjoy what downtown has to offer."
The public is invited to attend the following free music series at the Market House:
Tuesday, August 9
David Boothman (keys), originally from the islands Trinidad and Tobago , will blend his Caribbean heritage in a colorful weave of sounds and textures and combine his live performance with computer programmed background tracks.
Wednesday, August 10
Deanna Dove (guitar and vocal), a native songstress from North Beach, will croon her original Chesapeake Bay inspired tunes from her CD “Peace, Love and Crabs”.
Thursday, August 11
Ruben Dobbs (guitar and vocal), long time Annapolitan, and Joey Mtichell (bass) will perform roots music in a unique stomp and boogie style.
Tuesday, August 16
David Glaser (guitar and vocal), familiar to everyone on the Annapolis scene, will spin a soulful rock-styled spell on his listeners.
Wednesday, August 17
Gary Wright (guitar) and Ahren Buchheister (guitar), from Annapolis, will perform “Old Time” styling of traditional Appalachian tunes.
Thursday, August 18
Tom Lagana (guitar), a rare talent and frequent performer in Annapolis, will blend classical and jazz with unsurpassed harmonic nuance and invention.
The two-week Showcase is being jointly funded by Market House vendors and the City. The vendors are footing a majority of the expense, with the City's total share coming in at $210 for the two weeks.
The artists will take time between sets to chat with Market House visitors about their songwriting and performance techniques.
