Annapolis, MD - On Monday, the Navy announced that because it received two requests for leases for Greenbury Point—one for a golf course and the other for an Anne Arundel County park—it will no longer consider either for a sole source lease of the waterfront peninsula in Annapolis. The Navy plans to evaluate Greenbury Point to align it with the mission of the U.S. Naval Academy and Naval Support Activity Annapolis. CBF had previously expressed its support for the county’s effort to preserve the property as a park.
In response, CBF Maryland Executive Director Josh Kurtz issued the following statement:
“We’re encouraged by the Navy’s action Monday. Greenbury Point is a cherished green space in Annapolis and conserving it as a natural area helps improve water quality in the Chesapeake Bay. We hope the Navy puts significant value on the numerous benefits the land’s hiking trails, meadows, and trees provide to the community and environment as they evaluate the status and future of the peninsula.”
