Reminder: City Offices Closed for MLK Holiday on Monday
ANNAPOLIS, MD - The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for a large area that includes the Maryland portion of the Chesapeake Bay region. The storm system will have weekend impacts for Annapolis residents and visitors.
Forecast: Starting Friday, there may be strong winds for the Western Shore of the Chesapeake. In Annapolis, expect gusts to 30 MPH Friday afternoon and evening with overnight low temperatures in the teens. On Saturday, increasing clouds with temperatures in the high 20s will turn to cloudy overnight and temperatures again in the teens. On Sunday, snow will begin in the afternoon with temperatures hovering around the freezing mark. Winds will increase to 5 to 15 MPH with gusts to 25 MPH. Sunday night, the wintry mix and blustery conditions will continue as the snow turns to sleet, freezing rain and then all rain. Total snow accumulations are expected to be 2 to 3 inches. By early Monday morning, temperatures will be in the low 40s and the storm will have moved out of the area. Much of the accumulated snow is expected to melt with the rain and warming temperatures.
City offices are closed on Monday for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.
The Annapolis Public Works Department (DPW) is prepared with 800 tons of salt and crews available to plow and treat City streets. For plowing information, visit the City’s Public Works Snow Information webpage at the following link: https://www.annapolis.gov/730/Snow-Information. This page has information on Snow Emergency Routes, Snow Connector Routes and the City’s Snow Plan. At this time, the City does not plan to declare a Snow Emergency.
It may be best to avoid travel on area roadways late Sunday afternoon and evening when conditions are the worst and City crews are working to the clear streets. If you must travel, please slow down and exercise caution. Once snowfall begins, and during the turnover from snow to freezing rain, roads are expected to be slippery. Even if your vehicle’s dashboard monitor notes that temperatures are above the freezing mark, roadways may still be subject to freezing. Black ice is a significant concern for those out on the roadways on Sunday night and into Monday morning.

Annapolis Public Works: At this time, there is no change to Monday’s regularly scheduled refuse and recycling and yard waste collection. For updates or changes to collections, visit: www.annapolis.gov/1024/Refuse-Collection.
Emergency Operations Center Activation: The Annapolis Office of Emergency Management’s Emergency Operations Center activation status is “Enhanced.” The Annapolis Call Center is also activated to respond to non-emergency inquiries from the public. Annapolis residents can call 410-260-2211 for information on road conditions or for any non-emergency, snow-related questions.
Recreation and Parks: At this time, the “Pip” Moyer Recreation Center will follow regularly scheduled opening and closing times. For changes or snow-related closures, please visit the Recreation and Parks FACEBOOK page or the Pip Moyer FACEBOOK page. The Stanton Center is closed for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday but will be open as a warming center overnight through January 21.
Warming Center Opening: The Stanton Center, at 92 West Washington Street in Annapolis, will be open as a warming center from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. through the morning of January 21st. Please note that masks are required, all COVID-19 safety protocols must be followed, and all referrals must check-in to the Stanton Center nightly by 9 p.m.
