Although Dr. Wood has the training to perform a full range of oral and maxillofacial surgery, he focuses on ambulatory anesthesia, dentoalveolar surgery (especially removal of wisdom teeth), dental implants, reconstructive bone grafting procedures, oral pathology and minimally invasive cosmetic facial procedures (dermal fillers, botox injections, etc). His favorite part of his work is doing dental implants, “because the patients get so much satisfaction from the result; getting dental implants truly changes how they feel about themselves and their outlook on life,” he says.
rDr. Wood’s education includes an undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of South Carolina, followed by four years of dental school, two years of general practice residency and four years of oral and maxillofacial surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina.
rBecause some oral and maxillofacial procedures require a degree of sedation, Dr. Wood has advanced training in all levels of anesthesia. His office is equipped with the latest sedation technology and every staff member is CPR-certified and well-trained in assisting with I.V. sedation and general anesthesia. Dr. Wood himself is also certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
rAll procedures are performed by Dr. Wood in his state-of-the-art facility. His practice uses cone-beam CT (computed tomography) imaging technology which provides highly accurate 3-D radiographic images for diagnosis and treatment planning. Three-dimensional images enable a level of anatomical accuracy and predictability to patient care not possible with the traditional 2-D technologies. With the addition of this technology, Dr. Wood is able to provide the most innovative and highest quality patient care.
rDr. Wood’s expertise is rivaled only by his compassion. He has received many letters of appreciation for his office’s care and concern. “My father always told me, ‘Treat others as you want to be treated,’ and I try to live by that,” he says. In addition, his front office staff is extremely knowledgeable and well-versed in oral surgical care and insurance policies and is always happy to assist his patients.
rBorn and raised in the low country of South Carolina, Dr. Wood resides outside Easton with his wife and two children. He comes from a long line of health care professionals: his great-grandfather was the town doctor, his grandfather was an orthodontist, and his father was a dentist. The only one of five siblings to pursue a medical career, Dr. Wood is pleased to carry on his family’s rich tradition.
