“In Vino Veritas” St. John's College
Wine Tastings, Food Pairings, and Workshops with Noted Vintners and Wine Connoisseurs
Sample food and fine wines from more than 15 wineries located around the world at “In Vino Veritas,” sponsored by the friends of St. John's College in conjunction with Bay Ridge Wine and Spirits. This special event will be held on the back campus of ST. John's College on May 21 at 4:30 p.m. General admission $50. The first 400 registrants will receive a commemorative wine glass. Noted vintners and wine connoisseurs will lead workshops (Additional fee) during “In Vino Veritas.” In “Wine and Cheese pairings” with Phil Altherr of Bay Ridge Wine and Spirits, who trained in the “Masters of Cheese for Professionals” program at the Artisanal Cheese Center in New York City, participants will learn how to pair fine wine and cheeses through sampling them. Fee: $20. Time: 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. Location: Conversation Room of Mellon Hall.
At “Scholium Project Wines,” a renegade vintner, Abe Schoener, former St. John's tutor and assistant dean, will discuss his unorthodox approaches to wine making. Paricipants will sample Scholium Project Wines. Time: 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. Location: Great Hall of McDowell.
“A Sampling and Discussion of Various Cult, Vintage, and Sought After Wines” will be led by Tom Marquardt, wine connoisseur and editor and publisher of Capital Gazette Communications, Inc. Fee: $40. Time: 6:45 to 7:30 p.m. Location: Conversation Room of Mellon Hall.
