Tes Scanlon, 51, of Edgewater, was crowned Mrs. District of Columbia International this month and will go on to compete for the title of Mrs. International 2011 during the final competition in Chicago, July 19-23, 2011.

Scanlon is the mother of two adult sons and is a media consultant with expertise in the programming and production of cable television networks. She also is an active community volunteer and will support pituitary tumor awareness as her platform during her reign as Mrs. District of Columbia International. A ain tumor survivor, Scanlon will work with the John Hopkins Pituitary Center to raise awareness of this life-threatening disease and raise funds for research. She is also in the process of launching www.AreYouOneInFive.com, a web site that will provide information and resources for others affected by pituitary tumors.

At the age of 51, Tes did not expect to be competing in any pageant, but says “As Mrs. District of Columbia International I will focus on educating all women to become proactive in dealing with their medical care. We all must be prepared to demand second opinions, in-depth testing and quality follow-up care.”

In addition to each contestant's charitable platform, International Pageants, Inc. also supports the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women program through national volunteer and financial support. The Go Red for Women movement is dedicated to fighting heart disease among women.

The Mrs. International Pageant is owned and operated by International Pageants, Inc., which also operates Miss International and Miss Teen International pageants. It is the only platform-based pageant system dedicated to highlighting women's accomplishments through community support.
