The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum is hosting a pet costume contest as part of its inaugural Maritime Monster Mash cele ation. The event takes place from 6 to 9pm on Friday, October 21, with chills, thrills and spooky family fun along the museum’s St. Michaels waterfront campus.
The Maritime Monster Mash includes live music, dancing with DJ Chris Startt, prizes for costumes, ghost stories, haunted exhibits, refreshments, beer and wine for adults, games for all ages, and trick-or-treats for the kids. Live music will be performed by the Cemetery Cove String Quartet of Oxford, MD. Event sponsors include Calico Toys & Games, Crackerjacks Toys & Children’s Books, Bridges Landscaping & Garden Center, Sam’s Pizza & Restaurant, Chick-Fil-A of Easton, Edible Arrangements of Easton, Pepsi Ventures and several local artists.
Haunted storytelling will also take place throughout the event. Storytellers include Eric Mills, author of The Spectral Tide: Great True Ghost Stories of the U. S. Navy, Kelley Cox, Phillips Wharf Environmental Center president and frequent ghost tour host, and Lisa Cole, author of Searching for Chessie of the Chesapeake Bay.
Event-goers can also participate in a silent auction featuring unique, Halloween and fall decorations created and donated by several local artists. All event proceeds benefit the museum’s Navy Point bulkhead restoration project which is scheduled to begin this November.
Guests are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes for the event, with prizes awarded to best family, best couple, best children, best adult, and best pet costumes. Among other decorated exhibits, a “Sea Nettle Nightmare!” maze will be created under the 1879 Hooper Strait Lighthouse.
Tickets will be available the night of the October 21 event at $15 for non-member adults, $10 for member adults, $5 for teens 13-18, and free for kids 12 and under. For more information, visit www.cbmm.org or call 410-745-2916.
