At the midpoint of the year, many exciting changes are happening at Nielsen Development Group (NDG) as the company continues its trajectory of growth. Owner, Brant Nielsen, welcomes a new partner in Scott Kartvedt who has a unique background as a former Blue Angels Pilot. Brant has also welcomed recent partner, Joe Bickley, into a new role as Chief Operating Officer. We caught up with both Scott and Joe and asked them about their decisions to bring their talents to NDG.
What was it about your experience with Brant and NDG that led you to decide to invest and become an owner?
Joe: NDG’s core values and the quality product that NDG builds meant a lot to me. I saw the value of both and knew there are many people like me that would want this same thing. I realized that I wanted to work in a business where these values meant everything.
Scott: I’ve hired Brant and his team multiple times to work on our historic home in Annapolis. He is not only an honest and hardworking leader but also a friend. Our good working relationship has evolved into a business partnership, a testament to the depth of our connection. When we decided to become business partners, I told Brant that my investment was based on his remarkable leadership abilities.
What unique skills, perspectives, and experience do you have that you believe will contribute to NDG's growth and continued success?
Joe: I am a numbers focused person, I always have been. I am focusing on NDG's operational budget which will enable us to build capital to continue to grow the company and have an impact on our employees and our community.
Scott: My expertise is in strategic planning and operational execution, honed during my 22 years in the military. Trustworthy and honest home contractors and builders are hard to find, which is why I was so excited to partner with NDG.
What would you consider as success for NDG?
Joe: My ultimate goal is for NDG to build their first subdivision. When this happens, I will consider that a huge success.
Scott: I agree with Joe, expanding into residential neighborhood development is a goal.
What advice do you have for Brant?
Joe: Play to your strengths, focus on building relationships and building homes. Brant is amazing at both.
Scott: Continue to execute with honesty and integrity. Understand your value in the industry and be willing to make fair bids and continue to deliver on time, within budget.
