It may be cold outside but CAC will be groovin’ and warm as “Sun, Surf and 65” features the music of Sun records, the Beach Boys and the top hits of 1965, all performed by the band enjoyed last year in the Buddy Holly tribute show.
The recording label, Sun Records, brought attention and fame to Elvis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis and gave rise to the rockabilly style of music. Hits from Sun Records are featured on the first set of this concert.
Beach music of The Beach Boys, Jimmy Buffet, and Bob Marley make up the second set.
The great music that came out in 1965 from The Rolling Stones, Kinks, Byrds, Herman’s Hermits and Yardbirds, among others, make up the final musical tour of the night.
“To make the evening even more fun, CAC has offered our members discount price of $12 to all alumni of Brooklyn Park High School, as a way to welcome them back to their old ‘stomping grounds.’” said Davina Grace Hill, Executive Director of CAC. Chesapeake Arts Center was established in part of the building complex that used to be the Brooklyn Park High School.
“Last year, Walt Hetfield and his band were such a hit doing ‘Oh Boy, A Tribute to Buddy Holly’ that when we heard they had created a new show featuring well-loved music from the revered Sun Records along with Beach genres as well as 1965 hits we just knew we had to go for it,” Hill added.
More about Walt Hetfield and the Band:
Walt Hetfield and his band are from Delaware where they are active in the music and musical-theatre scene, performing at the Avalon Theatre, Rehoboth Bandstand and the Milton Theatre, among others.
