Anne Arundel County will join other Maryland counties in the Buy Local Challenge Campaign. The week long campaign will run from July 23-31, 2011. Anne Arundel County residents are encouraged to visit local farmers markets, roadside stands, wineries, and retail stores that offer local products. The program also encourages dining at restaurants featuring local food and wine.
This year Marylanders are encouraged to take the Buy Local Challenge to their workplace and win a catered lunch for everyone in the office. Visit www.buy-local-challenge.com for full contest details.
“I encourage everyone to take the Buy Local Challenge, visit a farmers market and try some fresh, locally grown produce” said County Executive John R. Leopold. “Buying items that are locally produced supports our farms, strengthens our economy and provides food that is fresher and safer.”
Anne Arundel County Farmer’s markets will feature local products and events to make it easier to take the Buy Local Challenge. The following events will take place in Anne Arundel County:

- The Westfield Annapolis Farmers Market will hold a Buy Local Challenge Festival on Sunday, July 24th from 10am -2pm; located in the Sears Parking Lot at Westfield Annapolis Mall r
- The Anne Arundel County Farmers Market will hold a Buy Local Festival on Tuesday July 26, from 7am – 12 noon; located in Annapolis at the Harry S. Truman Parkway and Riva Road intersection. r
