Third Place honors went to Captain and angler Steve Wagner of the PYY Fishing boat, who caught a 39” striped bass.
A rite of spring, the Boatyard Bar & Grill’s 20th Annual Rockfish Tournament was held on Saturday, May 6th. Fifty-nine fishing boats competed in the catch-photo-release tournament for the largest striped bass caught in Chesapeake Bay waters. The after party and awards presentation were held on the grounds of the Boatyard Bar & Grill in Eastport, Annapolis.
Boatyard owner Dick Franyo (pictured far left in the First Place photo) explains, “We purposely have made the tournament not a big, competitive ‘cash prize’ event, but rather a rite of spring, an environmental awareness day, and fundraiser for three great causes.”
Proceeds from the event benefit three main organizations/causes: the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, the Coastal Conservation Association Maryland, and the Annapolis Police Foundation’s Youth Fishing Camp.
