Fence & Deck Connection & WMAR ABC2 Team Up in an Extreme Makeover to the Children's Home
On Thursday, July 28th, Fence & Deck Connection and WMAR ABC2, along with a group of other local businesses and contractors teamed up and revealed dramatic improvements to The Children's Home in Catonsville. The Children’s Home is a non-profit Baltimore area foster home for children ages 13–21 who are there due to abuse, neglect, and abandonment. The Children’s Home underwent a physical makeover thanks to the program Built Upon A Dream, and volunteers from the Maryland community, including Fence & Deck Connection. The Children’s Home has received just under $500,000 in goods, services, and donations through Built Upon A Dream which airs on WMAR. The renovations will enable The Children’s Home to better serve the children, families, and local community.
This Built Upon a Dream project, benefitting The Children’s Home, included improvements across the 44-acre campus. Workers improved everything from roofing, painting, electrical, fencing, and landscaping at the home. All team member companies donated time, labor, materials, and supplies to get the job done. Many of the individual corporate donations are valued at more than $25,000. The Built Upon a Dream team includes General Contractor, MacKenzie Contracting Company, Manekin Construction, Fence & Deck Connection, A. Hoffman Awning, Bath Fitter, Cox Roofing, Bank of America, Ruppert Landscape, Thompson Creek, Penza Bailey Architects as well as a number of sub-contractors, suppliers and volunteers.
Fence & Deck Connection worked with their partners, Trex and Homeland Vinyl, and their contributions include a and new Trex Transcends Composite 20’ x 20’ deck with ramp access for the cafeteria, a new white vinyl railing and deck wrap, a new white vinyl privacy fence around the cafeteria’s outdoor utilities with a double gate for easy access. These renovations will provide a much needed outdoor eating space during the warmer months of the year as well as a face lift to the entrance.

Coldwell Banker’s Anne Arundel County offices not only sponsored this year’s Labor Day Pops in the Park concert with the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, which took place at Quiet Waters Park on Sunday, September 4th, but have also banded together to spearhead the Annapolis Symphony’s Play It Forward program, collecting used instruments to be refurbished and loaned to students of Anne Arundel County Public Schools who cannot otherwise afford them. Instruments were collected at the four Coldwell Banker offices in the county (Church Circle, Annapolis Plaza, Crofton, and Severna Park) and were accepted at the concert as well. Coldwell Banker and the Symphony accepted instruments in all conditions that were then triaged, repaired, and distributed to qualifying students.
