Honoring the Civil Rights Movement and Celebrating Black Leaders
November 16th; Maryland Hall, Annapolis
On a momentous day of civil rights celebration, the traveling exhibition, "I Am a Man," stands as a testament to the power of photography in capturing the essence of the 1960s-1970s civil rights movement. This exhibition showcases a striking collection of photographs, taken by amateurs, local photojournalists, and renowned photographers, that served as persuasive tools during that pivotal decade. Alongside this, the Peace on Earth Juried Photography Exhibition invites individuals to share their visions of peace from different corners of the world. As the day unfolds, the screening of "The Bus" and "The March" immerses viewers in the journey of American citizens who traveled to Washington D.C. to join the historic March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom in 1963. Witnessing Martin Luther King, Jr.'s stirring "I Have a Dream" speech, the 240,000 Black and white Americans who participated in the event became a living testament to the ongoing pursuit of equality. Together, these events create a powerful and inspiring celebration of civil rights, honoring the past while inspiring hope for a brighter future.
