As part of the current exhibit of unique baskets and woven sculpture by fiber artist and basket maker, Heidi Wetzel, the Main Street Gallery is pleased to announce that during our Second Saturday reception on October 8, Ms. Wetzel will show you the basics of basket weaving on a muffin basket and a basket vase.
The demonstration will begin at 7pm, during the gallery's 6-9pm reception. Ms. Wetzel will have samples of various techniques and materials, and will explain how each can be used. You will see a variety of her work and learn how she uses reed, yarn, sea grass, bark and other materials. The will be ample opportunity to ask questions and you may even have a chance to try a little basket making yourself.
Ms. Wetzel, an award winning fiber artisan, is the current guest artist in a show entitled “Cornucopia: A Fall Festival of Art” which runs until October 29. She lives and works just outside of St. Michael's, Maryland, and her baskets and sculptures reflect the beauty she sees in the world around her and the natural surroundings here on the Eastern shore. In addition to Ms. Wetzel's exhibit, the gallery's resident artists have a wide variety of creative paintings, photographs, pottery, jewelry, wood products and other artwork on display.
The Main Street Gallery is an artist-run and owned venue, and is fully accessible. There is nearby free parking. Light refreshments will be available at the reception.
