Kent Island Resort | Sarah Murray Photography
WEDDING DATE: April 29, 2023
NUMBER OF GUESTS: 190
BEST BITES: Au gratin potatoes + strawberry wedding cake
HIGH SCHOOL SWEETHEARTS
Lizzie and Alec met in middle school. “I thought Alec was such a goofball because he was always joking around,” Lizzie says. At 15, the pair went on their first date: a showing of 21 Jump Street at the Annapolis Mall. “We still argue about when our anniversary is because, technically, it was past midnight when Alec asked me to be his girlfriend,” Lizzie says.

One of Lizzie’s vendor MVPs was her photographer. “Sarah Murray does such an amazing job capturing the raw and candid moments.”
JACK OF ALL VENUES
The pair selected Kent Island Resort because of its “mixture of vibes.” Lizzie swooned over the historic house, Alec, the barn and grounds. Both appreciated the fact that the barn was designed by the same architect as Charlottesville’s Pippin Hill Vineyard, which was one of their favorite wineries to visit during college.
A DRESS FOR A PRINCESS
Lizzie felt apathetic about her dress shopping experience, until she visited Garnish Boutique. “I wanted to feel like a princess because when else do you get to wear a giant gown?!” she says. The gown that she found by Martina Liana had a simple silhouette, so she complemented her look with fingerless vow gloves from Kerry Parker.

TIMELESS AND NEON
Lizzie wanted their wedding to feel timeless, yet unique. All-white florals and groomsmen in traditional black suits conveyed the former, while sage bridesmaid dresses (Lizzie’s favorite color), neon signage, and gold flatware gave the reception a modern air. The seating chart was printed on canvas sheets — a fun detail that Lizzie enjoyed for its originality.
GIRL’S BEST VENDORS
The easiest vendor for Lizzie to find was her videographer, Nate Bittinger, who she has known for a few years. “He made our wedding so special and exceeded our expectations,” she says. Lizzie had more difficulty settling on a florist. “I was nervous about someone being able to match my vision,” she says. But Pretty Little Wedding Co. delivered big. “The arch at our alter was just to die for,” Lizzie says. She also appreciated her florist’s problem-solving abilities. At the last minute, the couple had to add two reception tables, and Pretty Little Wedding Co. seamlessly pulled florals from other spaces to make sure those two tables didn’t look bare.

Lizzie and Alec rented a 1961 Rolls Royce, which added luxurious style to the couple’s getaway and portrait sessions.
